My absolute favourite accommodation on our Brisbane to Airlie Beach road trip was our stay at the 1770 Beach Shacks! It really was one of the highlights of our holiday.

Let me tell you all about it in this 1770 Beach Shacks review…

1770 Beach Shacks – Accommodation overview

The 1770 Beach Shacks offer a unique and tropical beachfront setting, perfect for those seeking luxury beachfront accommodation with spectacular views. We stayed in the Sunset Beach Shack – a free-standing pole house on the side of a slope, boasting panoramic Coral Sea views and magnificent sunsets.

The air-conditioned bungalow provides a comfortable retreat, complete with a well-equipped kitchen, flat-screen TV, and a huge private deck. The wooden bungalows exude beautiful tropical architecture, making for a truly charming stay. There are so many totally unique features – from the artwork to the wicker furniture to the wooden bed canopy. It felt like a real tropical paradise – like you’d find on the beach in Fiji or Bali. It was rustic luxury and everything about it made us feel like we were on a tropical island

Sweet touches like the fresh flowers on our beds only added to this welcoming feel.

Inside, you’ll find air-conditioned rooms, a walk-in shower, flat-screen television and everything you need to enjoy a fabulous stay at 1770. The accommodation is perfect for families, with infant beds and extra beds available upon request. It was a great size for the five of us.

The two-bedroom accommodation had a gorgeous double bed with canopy that had sea views, and big doors out to the balcony where there was a hammock. Laying in hammocks with a good book and an amazing water view is one of my all-time favourite things to do so I was very happy in this spot!

The second bedroom had bunk beds and another bed for our three kids. The perfect size!

This kitchen was pretty basic which was fine for us – we had plenty of crokery and all of the things we needed. We also had the giant BBQ on the deck so we cooked our meals on that and enjoyed the most amazing views while cooking.

    Location of 1770 Beach Shacks

The water view from reception at 1770 Beach Shacks

The 1770 Beach Shacks are situated in a perfect location, just a short stroll from the inlet beach (literally across the road). Agnes Water town centre is only a 5-minute drive away, providing easy access to shops, restaurants and amenities. If you’re arriving by plane, Gladstone Airport is the nearest major airport, It’s a great stop if you’re doing a coastal road trip

The property is ideally located for exploring the southern Great Barrier Reef, with Lady Musgrave Island just a day cruise away. The Joseph Banks Conservation Park, known for its excellent fishing spots and a beautiful place for nature walks, is also within a short drive.

You can sit on the deck of 1770 Beach Shacks and look out at this view below – it is spectacular.

Resort facilities at 1770 Beach Shacks

The 1770 Beach Shacks offer a range of facilities. The beachfront bungalows provide a private balcony, perfect for enjoying the great views and ocean views. The resort’s outdoor dining area and BBQ facilities allow for amazing al fresco meals – the balcony really was the best place to cook and enjoy a BBQ as the backdrop was idyllic. For those looking to relax, it’s the perfect resort to unwind and take in the beautiful surroundings. To be honest, with a view like this, there is no need to leave! I could have stayed there all day long and not got bored.

There is free parking underneath the accommodation. When you come to check in, be prepared for a walk as the reception desk is at the top of the steep steps above all of the accommodation up the hill. it’s so worth it though as the view back is just stunning.

The accommodation involves carrying your things up the steps, and how many steps depends on which of the Beach Shacks you’re allocated. So it’s best not to pack too many things so you don’t have to carry too much up the steps!

There was a laundry facility on the premises and it was free (which was so handy after paying out to do laundry at the other stops on our journey). There was a washing line beside our apartment so we could hang it out to dry too.

Really, all you need is to roll out of bed, enjoy breakfast and coffee on the deck with that view, and then head across the road to the beach. It’s a simple experience but was just amazing and even our kids said it was one of the best places they’ve ever stayed as they loved how laid back it was and loved swimming and splashing around in the shallow water.

Our verdict | 1770 Beach Shacks review

1770 Beach Shacks cost more than the rest of the accommodation on our Brisbane to Airlie Beach road trip, but as soon as I saw the photos of it online, I knew I needed to stay there! I felt that after staying in lots of cheaper holiday park cabins, we’d need a more luxurious stay and I was right. We were so ready for it when we arrived here and it made us appreciate it even more.

We only had two nights here, and I seriously wish we’d been able to stay for longer. Next time, it would be great to stay for a week to really relax and unwind.

It was good value for money (more expensive, but it deserved to be), combining a perfect location with stunning views and comfortable, well-appointed accommodation. The use of wooden bungalows and the beautiful tropical architecture provides a unique experience and it was so cosy and comfortable. The proximity to the southern Great Barrier Reef and local attractions like Joseph Banks Conservation Park and Agnes Water makes it an ideal base for a holiday, although on this trip we just stayed put and enjoyed the beautiful accommodation and beach across the road.

The friendly staff, great views and array of facilities, including deck BBQ and kayak hire, enhance the overall experience. Whether you’re looking for a base for a day cruise to Lady Musgrave Island, or you’re looking for beachfront accommodation where you can relax on your private deck, the 1770 Beach Shacks is the perfect option.

For those seeking a peaceful retreat with the option for adventure, this unique beachfront accommodation is a fantastic choice. 1770 Beach Shacks is up there as one of the best places I’ve ever stayed before. Even though there was no water park or jumping pillow, the kids want to go back which says a lot about how comfortable it was – there is a lot to be said about a quiet, relaxing family break at the beach.

I hope you enjoyed my 1770 Beach Shacks review! Let me know if you decide to stay there!
