When do we celebrate Mother’s Day in Australia?
In many countries, the day chosen to celebrate Mother’s Day is based on seasons. If your mum/step mum/mother in law/grandma lives in another country, don’t forget to celebrate on their country’s Mother’s Day too as not everybody celebrates on the same date as the Australian Mother’s Day!
Mothering Sunday (as it is sometimes called) falls on the fourth Sunday of Lent in the UK. Because Mother’s Day in the UK is associated with Easter which changes according to the lunar cycle, the actual date moves every year. This year, in 2024, the UK celebrated Mother’s Day on Sunday 10 March and next year it will be Sunday 30 March 2025.
In Australia, Mother’s Day is celebrated in autumn on the second Sunday in May and this year that date is Sunday 12 May 2024. Next year, it’s Sunday 11 May 2025 just in case you want to plan early!
