Facebook community to help you move to Australia & thrive

‘Thank you Karen for creating this group. It is an amazing resource and allows us all to give advice as well as ask for advice from people in similar situations. I’m not sure I would have been confident applying for our visa and planning the move to the other side of the world without it. You should be so proud of what you have achieved. You are making a huge difference to so many people’s lives by sharing your own journey and ways to make it easier for others. Thank you!’

Having a strong community around you is so important when you move to Australia. You need to surround yourself with people who get it. You need to follow the path of other people who’ve done it (not people who have only ever talked about doing it). You need to talk to others who have been through (or are going through) exactly what you are going through. It makes everything so much easier.

Different hands laid on a table

Migrating across the world is an unusual thing to do – the chances are there are a lot of people in your life who tell you they always wanted to move to Australia but an obstacle got in their way so it didn’t happen. There will be people around you who say they want to move to Australia ‘one day’ but don’t have a plan to make it actually happen. There will be others who can’t understand why you would even consider leaving your home and your family to move ten miles, let alone to a totally new continent.

Most people stay put. Most people don’t follow their dreams because they are too big and scary. Many people make excuses. For some people, it’s just not their dream to explore and challenge themselves in this way and they want nothing more than to be where they are (which is totally fine – we don’t all want the same things out of life!).

But you aren’t like most people.

Things are easier when you have support

Everything in life is easier when you have supportive people around you. When you can bounce ideas around with people who understand you or when you can ask for help when you need it or when you can celebrate with people who are excited to hear about your achievements.

A big reason for starting Smart Steps to Australia was to set up a safe and positive community so that people had somewhere to go to ask questions, share their success, or share their frustrations without the fear that they would be trolled or sold to or receive endless negative replies. A supportive community makes everything much easier.
